Is Clever Logger the right choice for mobile monitoring?

Clever Logger is primarily designed for monitoring fixed assets like fridges and freezers.

When it comes to monitoring trucks and mobile applications like catering, it may or may not be the best solution. It largely comes down to 3 questions:

1. Do you want an immediate notification when it becomes too hot or cold?
2. Do you want to know the temperature in real time at all times? (i.e. what is the temperature of the stock right now)
3. Do you want to know the location of the truck/stock in real time?

If the answer to any of these is “yes” then Clever Logger is probably NOT the right solution. It’s not intended to do this. There are other systems that are specifically designed to do this.

Which raises a 4th question:

4. What is your budget?

These other systems can be quite expensive. The loggers can be over $1,000 and they often have a monthly fee. If your budget is sufficient then these other systems are the ideal solution for you. This is probably a good place to stop reading.

If, however, you are on a tight budget, or don’t need the immediate notification etc then Clever Logger is probably a good solution. 

Here are some more questions that we would ask:

5. Do you have one (or a few) depots/offices where the truck will be returning to? This is where we would be placing the gateways.
6. Do they regularly (once a week or more) return so the data can be retrieved?

If the answer is no to either of these, then we do have other solutions that may be better.

But if you said yes to both of these then Clever Logger is looking like a good solution. 

In this case you would have a gateway close to the loading dock or a common point in the office. Each truck would then have a logger in it.

When the truck arrives, the gateway will automatically detect it and download the log. If there are any problems you will then be automatically notified. You get the benefits of Clever Logger, but slightly delayed!
