Four Calibration Options

There are four (technically three) “calibration” options available. Further down we explain in detail the differences, but will try to guide you to the one that you need first.

  • A Certificate of Accuracy from a testing lab – from $121 inc. GST
  • A NATA Certificate from an accredited lab – from $269.50 inc. GST
  • Purchase a replacement Logger through our annual renewal process with a Certificate of Compliance from the manufacturer – from $99 inc. GST
  • Just purchase a new unit

Which option is best for you?

1. Is this for a new logger?

Yes, this is for a new logger

I assume you are reading this section because you have been told it needs to be calibrated or certified. If this is not the case, and you are just here out of curiosity then you probably don’t need a certificate.

If you are here because you have been instructed to get a calibration certificate with the logger, then the next key question is:

Does it have to be a NATA Certified certificate?

There is a bit of fine print in that statement. In some cases it must be NATA Certified in which case you need a NATA Certificate.

If you just require a calibration certificate then our Certificate Of Accuracy come from labs that are NATA traceable. See below for the difference.

But there are some people who just want an official looking “certificate” and opt for the free “Certificate Of Compliance”. See below for what it is.

In summary, the answer to what you need is “what were you told that you have to have?”

If you are still not sure, please contact us at either [email protected] or call 02 9614 6417.

No, this is for an existing logger

The next question is the magical question…

Do you need a certificate with a new unit or just an annual recertification?

Is the requirement to check the logger each year to make sure it hasn’t been damaged or drifted? This is a growing requirement with many of our users.

For some users, especially those who are storing drugs that are part of research projects the requirement is to always have a certified logger, not just after a year.

I just need annual recertification

If you just require annual recertification then the best option for you is to buy a new unit. It has the benefits of:

  • Costing less than a certificate
  • You don’t have to send us your existing logger. You just get the new logger and swap them over (physically and in the program)
  • No gap in the data. You are always logging the fridge.

Built into the cost of your logger is the data hosting fee. Because this is a swap over logger, we don’t charge you an extra rehosting fee. This means that the annual replacement logger will be cheaper than a brand new unit.

I always need a certified logger

Does it have to be a NATA Certified certificate?

There is a bit of fine print in that statement. In some cases it must be NATA Certified in which case you need a NATA Certificate.

If you just require a calibration certificate then our Certificate Of Accuracy come from labs that are NATA traceable. See below for the difference.

But there are some people who just want an official looking “certificate” and opt for the free “Certificate Of Compliance”. See below for what it is. In this case, the annual new logger is the best solution.

If you are getting a NATA Certificate, or Certificate of Accuracy, what do you want to do in when the logger is being calibrated?

If you are wanting to calibrate an existing logger, the question is about what will happen during the 2 to 3 weeks it will take to be calibrated? Do you have another logger that can be in its place?

If you don’t want the down time, then buying a new logger with a certificate may be a simpler solution. If the down time is not an issue, or you have another logger that can be used then simply arranging for the calibration is a good option. Our recommendation is to change the battery at the same time.

Is your logger over 3 years old?

If it is a gen-1 logger (CLT-01, CLH-01, CLX-01, CLD-01) then it is worth considering buying a new logger with the certificate. It has the benefit of no down time, but it also means that the unit is guaranteed to be accurate.

After a number of years you have a growing chance that it will fail the calibration check. If it fails you will then need to buy a new unit as well as have it tested again. You have now paid for 2 tests and 1 logger.

What are the different options?

NATA Certificate

This is a test done in a NATA certified lab. It is a much slower test (more readings are required), needs to be done by a fully qualified technician and consequently is the most expensive option. They currently start at $269.50 for a 3-point temperature check. Additional points and humidity will increase the price.

Certificate of accuracy

This is a test done in a lab where their equipment is still traceable to the NATA standard, but the test is quicker and there is far less paperwork involved. The certificate is significantly cheaper but is still an independent test of the unit. They start at about $121 for a 3-point temperature check.

Most of our customers (who pay for a certificate) will have a certificate of accuracy instead of the full NATA certificate.

Certificate of conformance

This is a piece of paper that virtually says “the product does what we said it would do”. It says that the product is within the accuracy limits stated.

Practically, the sensors were rigorously tested at the point of manufacture. We also do a quick temperature check when programming the units.

The certificate of compliance

Certificate of conformance

This is a test done in a lab where their equipment is still traceable to the NATA standard, but the test is quicker and there is far less paperwork involved. The certificate is significantly cheaper but is still an independent test of the unit.

Most of our customers will have a certificate of accuracy instead of the full NATA certificate.

If you require a certificate stating your devices are working as designed there are three options we can offer:

  • A Certificate of Accuracy from a testing lab – from $121 inc. GST
  • A NATA Certificate from an accredited lab – from $269.50 inc. GST
  • Purchase a replacement Logger through our annual renewal process with a Certificate of Compliance from the manufacturer – from $99 inc. GST

The difference in the options is that the lab in the first option is not NATA accredited but uses NATA traceable instruments. The lab in the second option is a NATA accredited lab and can provide certificates with the NATA label.

A Certificate of Compliance is one we receive from the manufacturer that states that the device is within the specified error margin when it leaves the factory.

Do you need it? Probably not. But if your governing organisation insists, the service is available to you. You can call us to discuss on 1300 80 88 89 or send us an email: [email protected].

What is NATA?

The National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) is the recognised national accreditation authority for analytical laboratories and testing service providers in Australia. It is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that provides independent assurance of technical competence.

NATA accredits organisations to perform testing and inspection activities for their products and services. This gives consumers the assurance they need to make safe, healthy and reliable choices .
