This page has information on why we have specific values, and then a table saying what those values are.

Chances are, if you are reading this page it is because you are either wanting to know:

  1. what all of this means – start with the explanations
  2. what were we thinking when we came up with the defaults – start with the explanations
  3. what are the actual defaults – go to the presets, in particular the notification groups presets.

It is mainly the notification group presets that aren’t clearly shown in the software (due to layout issues). My recommendation is to start with the explanation

Alarm Explanation

Temperature limits

For vaccine and hospitality fridges, the limits are the industry standards.  The advantage of this is that we will only generate an alarm when there is definitely a problem.

We contemplated having the limits half a degree within the requirements so that users would be notified of a potential problem before it occurred. We decided to avoid this (for now) because of the number of false alarms it would generate.

Low battery

It’s on. It should be on. End of story.

Offline

The default offline alarm is 3 log intervals. It is a compromise between too many false alarms when the network is a bit unreliable, and waiting too long to report it to you. Keep in mind that a blackout is the most common cause of the logger going offline, and we are potentially warning you of a power failure.

Notification Group Explanation

By default, every organisation will have two notification groups – one for email and one for phone notification. By default, every user will be added to both groups.

Default Email Group

The default email group is intended to be a place where you are guaranteed to read about the alarm, but it may not be immediately. You will see it first thing in the morning or at some stage during the day.

It is our preferred method of reminding you about a problem until it is FIXED.

Since we will be sending you reminders for an extended period we will send them less often.

Default Phone Notification (push) Group

The default push group is intended to be a place where you are likely to read about the alarm, and has the best chance of being immediately. It is what will disturb you during the night or when you are having dinner.

It is our preferred method of reminding you about a problem until you are AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. The way that we know you are aware of the problem is that you ACKNOWLEDGE the alarm.

The problem with push notifications is that you won’t necessarily see them if you miss them when they arrive. Your phone will make a noise but if you don’t hear it, you won’t check it. Consequently we will send another reminder and we want to do this reasonably frequently.

Temperature alarm

A 15 minute push reminder effectively gives a person 15 minutes to acknowledge the alarm and start to respond. As soon as one person acknowledges the alarm, all users will STOP being reminded via push notification.

The email reminders are 12 hours. Practically, we think that an email in your inbox will remain in your awareness for the business day, but by the next day you will have forgotten about it. A twice daily reminder seems like a good interval. We also wanted to avoid someone returning on a Tuesday after a long weekend and not have hundreds of reminders.

Low battery

We will send an email reminder once a day until the battery is replaced. It could be slower and we were considering a weekly reminder.

We do not send a push notification because there’s nothing you can do about it at 3am in the morning. Enjoy your sleep.

Offline

We will send the email notification reminder once a day. This is to ensure that users don’t just acknowledge the phone notification and then forget to fix the problem. While the logger is offline we are unable to notify you of a problem.

The push notification reminders are once an hour until acknowledged or ended. If the logger does come back online we will stop annoying you.
