Alarming behaviour that you should not ignore

In this article, we delve into the crucial reasons and true stories on why you should never ignore Clever Logger alarms.

Even inaction is an action...

In our fast-paced lives, alarms often become mere background noise. But what if we told you that ignoring an alarm could lead to dire consequences? In this article, we delve into the crucial reasons and true stories on why you should never brush off that warning sound.

Reason 1: They actually mean something

The significance of alarms cannot be stressed enough, as evident from a recent incident involving a customer and their vaccine fridge.

For an astonishing six months, the fridge had been emitting a consistent beeping sound. It had been happening for so long that all the staff thought the fridge was meant to be beep.  Little did they know the potential consequences lurking beneath the surface.

Vaccines stored within the faulty fridge, had been compromised and rendered ineffective. This unsettling scenario highlights the critical importance of not ignoring alarms, especially when it comes to preserving vital resources like vaccines. Alarms are designed to alert us to potential dangers or urgent matters that require immediate attention. By initially disregarding the beeping as routine, the customer unwittingly jeopardized the effectiveness of vaccines intended to protect lives.

Always investigate and respond promptly to alarms, for they often carry weighty implications that demand our proactive action.

Reason 2: If you don't deal with it, someone else may

If the right person doesn’t respond to an alarm, imagine what could happen when the wrong person does.

A diligent cleaner, attempting to silence a beeping laboratory fridge, unknowingly caused the loss of 25 years’ worth of invaluable research.

In the case of the beeping fridge, one burning question remains: Why was it left to beep incessantly? The answer lies in someone’s failure to respond to the alarm. Instead, a cleaner working afterhours, decided to make matters into their own hands. By neglecting to address the warning, the consequences can be catastrophic, as evidenced by the 25 years of lost research.

Take alarms seriously, investigate them, and respond promptly. It’s a small action that can prevent immeasurable loss.

Reason 3: The important gets lost in the repetitive

Recently I spoke to a customer who said they were so sick of the alarms coming from Clever Logger that they just automatically deleted them all.

Ironically, there had only been one alarm but they never acknowledged it, and they continued to receive daily reminders.

If there had been a new, current high temperature alarm they would have deleted it as well. By dismissing and deleting the alarms, the customer effectively silenced the alarms’ intended purpose – drawing attention to potential dangers.

This cautionary tale emphasizes the importance of not only acknowledging but also investigating and addressing alarms promptly. Ignoring or deleting alarms can have disastrous outcomes, leaving us vulnerable to escalating risks and preventable damage.

Let this story be a lesson to treat every alarm as a vital communication, warranting our utmost attention and action to safeguard against potential harm.

LESSONS FROM THE STORIES:

The incidents highlighted in these stories teach us invaluable lessons about the importance of responding to alarms.

When an alarm sounds, it is crucial to investigate and address it promptly, rather than dismissing it as an inconvenience. Ignoring or deleting alarms without understanding the underlying cause can lead to dire consequences. Just like the tale of the boy who cried wolf, repeated false alarms can desensitize us and prevent us from recognizing genuine emergencies.

Each alarm carries a message that demands our attention and action. By promptly addressing alarms and preventing unnecessary beeping or notifications, we ensure that genuine warnings receive the urgency they deserve.

Clever Logger should only send you notifications of problems, and you need to acknowledge them and fix them.
