Loggers and wi-fi
We are often asked “Why do I need a Gateway? Why can’t the Logger just connect to the wi-fi directly?”
The answer has to do with power consumption. Connecting to external networks such as 3G/4G or wi-fi chews through battery life, as you know from how quickly your phone goes flat. If we connected the Logger straight to the wi-fi, the battery would be lucky to last a few days.
So instead, the Logger uses a low power connection to the Gateway that gives us battery life of 10-12 months.

Gateways and wi-fi
In order to connect the CleverLogger Gateway to your wi-fi network, we need two things: the name of the network (SSID) and the password.
We can pre-configure these details onto the Gateway before we send it to you, or we can push them out to the Gateway once it is connected to your network by ethernet cable.
Either way, you will need to get in touch with us to arrange this.

Finding the wireless network's SSID
The easiest way to find the SSID is to look at your smartphone’s wi-fi settings.
It is case-sensitive so you will need to give it to us exactly as it appears.
The password is also case-sensitive.
